Ever wanted to explore ecopoetry, but don’t know where or how to begin? Already know what ecopoetry is and just want to make something worth hanging on a wall, or tucking into your favourite book? Join us for a relaxed and intimate poetry writing workshop.
In a small group, we will use the concepts of ecopoetics and collage to generate ideas and create mementos. An experienced facilitator will lead you through a variety of ecopoetic examples, from Joy Harjo to local contemporaries, offer prompts, and guide you as you write your own poems.
Participants can expect a warm, welcoming, and easy-going environment. The workshop will be seated, with time set aside to write and share.
Absolutely no previous experience needed! Come prepared to try something new.
About the facilitator:
Ellen Chang-Richardson (they/them) is an award-winning poet and hybrid genre writer whose debut collection, Blood Belies, was a finalist for the 2025 Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. A third culture kid at heart, Ellen's writing is informed by their love of contemporary art, by geopolitics, the anthropocene, memory, and their experience moving through various societies as a femme-presenting genderqueer. When they’re not nose-to-notebook, Ellen can be found baking sourdough bread, gardening, co-curating the experimental Riverbed Reading Series, and editing for Paper Bill Press, long con magazine, and Room. Connect with them on socials @ehjchang.
Space limited to 8 participants.
Price: $55
Note: The workshop room is on the second floor (steep stairs).
